Hi there, I am looking for a screen capture software to make videos with. I've seen a couple free ones that were complete shit and some really expensive ones that were overdone. Any advice on what I should use?

Assuming you have Windows, Screencast-O-Matic might be of use. There's a free version that allows a max of 15 minutes of video. Not sure if you'd need more than 15 minutes though, that's the downside. www.screencast-o-matic.com

Actually, there's a way to do it through VLC media player and I believe you get an unlimited amount of recording time.

If you are looking to record gameplays, Fraps is a MUST. It is a paid program but the quality is absolutely unbeatable
